Animals Building Structures

Watch the video and answer the following question:

“What are the differences between man-made structures and nature made structures?”

1- Bring your answer in an A4 sheet of paper. 

2- Write your ideas in a clear way. 

3-You may draw or glue pictures to illustrate your chart if necessary.

It's time for an interview...

Ao longo dessa unidade transdisciplinar, estudamos sobre estruturas e seus impactos em nossas vidas  (nosso planeta).
Em nossa última pesquisa, conhecemos um pouco mais sobre ' skyscrapers' e suas particularidades.

Agora é hora de entrevistar profissionais envolvidos na construção de estruturas similares a estas.
Vale entrevistar engenheiros, arquitetos, designers, mestres de obra, pintores, marceneiros, pedreiros...ou seja, profissionais realmente envolvidos em construção de grandes estruturas (prédios, condomínios, áreas de lazer, praças, arenas, avenidas...).

The questions could be like these:

* Qual é a sua profissão e porque a escolheu?
* Há quanto tempo trabalha nisso?
* De quais construções você ja participou?
* Quais os riscos envolvidos em sua profissão? (saúde, bem-estar...)
* Qual a importância de sua profissão para a sociedade?

etc...

So... you could use our questions or come up with your own. You may use the help of your family to develop more interesting questions.

Tentem trazer fotos de seus entrevistados, se possível.

Don't forget to put the name of the person interviewed in your research.
If possible, also mention your relation to this person.

As entrevistas poderão ser entregues até a próxima Segunda-feira (23/11/15).

Não esqueçam de trazer seus cadernos de desenho para a classe amanhã e sexta, mesmo que não tenham terminado a entrevista, ok? (We need them for the math centers!!!)

Skyscrapers: world's tallest buildings

Olá, 

How about learning a little more about these AMAZING structures?

Assistam o vídeo abaixo. Procurem mais informações na internet sobre os arranha-céus do mundo.

Use your drawing notebook to write about what you learned.

Considerem os seguintes questionamentos:

* Which is the tallest building in the world now a days?

* How tall can a skyscrapper get?

* Which materials can be used to build these high-stable structures?

* Which professionals develop skyscrapper's projects? Who works at the construction site?

* Why people started building skyscrappers?

Cidades Planejadas

Hi everyone,

Today our project is to plan a city. 

We started planning it in class, but we need to make sure we reflect about our project before we move on. So think about the following aspects:

* Como esta cidade funciona?
* É uma cidade auto-sustentável?
* Há respeito pelo meio ambiente?
* Como funcionam os serviços públicos lá?
* Como melhorar ou criar boa mobilidade urbana?
* É segura?
* Há empregos suficientes?
* Que tipo de tecnologia é empregado nesta cidade?

...

We need to think about all positive and negative aspects of all cities we know before we can propose and plan ours.

Após criarem o seu projeto (com capricho!), criem um texto, descrevendo a cidade e seu funcionamento. Levem os aspectos listados acima em consideração. 
Lembrem-se de escrever de forma bilíngue.

Famous World Structures

Hi everyone,

How about travelling around the world without leaving home?
The world is filled with many interesting places to visit.
Some of these places are WONDERFUL STRUCTURES.

So... here we go....

1- Start by watching the video (7 wonders of the World)
2- Choose a famous world structure to research. (Collect information, pictures and interesting facts about this structure.)
3- Create a display in your drawing notebook about your famous structure (include pictures, facts, historical information...)

Lembrem-se também de postar seus comentários, aqui no blog, após a pesquisa da estrutura escolhida. Sua pesquisa deverá ser bilíngue, devendo conter fatos e explicações em Português e Inglês.

É importante que durante a pesquisa procurem ler com atenção, buscando pontuar fatos históricos que fazem desta estrutura (construção) algo importante para a humanidade. 

Faremos o compartilhamento destas pesquisas em sala ao longo das próximas semanas.

Green Infrastructure?

Hi Guys,

After our big question session last Thursday, we wondered if you could give us some ideas on developing better city plannings and improving cities infrastructure.

We think a good way to start is thinking about the impact that city development is causing to all natural life around. 

As we concluded, during class, people have been destroying Nature to build new cities. These cities are growing faster and faster as more and more people need a shelter (a home), making city planning more and more challenging to engineers, architects, politicians...

So... we thought...why not building green cities? 

But... What is a green city? What do we have to do to make our cities greener? What will be the impact on city planning and infrastructure if we do transform our cities in greener places?

We found two videos that gives us an idea of how to connect green life to city planning. We also found two great sites that spread the idea of building green.

Watch the videos. Explore the sites. Talk to your parents, people in your community and discuss the topic so that you have a better idea of this difficult problem every city in the world is facing! 

After researching, write a comment here telling us your opinion on the matter.

Do you know any green cities? Will we ever see them in Brazil?

We call these places HOME.

Parabéns aos alunos do Year- 3 que estiveram envolvidos e comprometidos em conhecer um pouco melhor sobre as propostas dos candidatos ao governo de Pernambuco e presidência da República!

Foi maravilhoso ouvir cada um de vocês e conhecer um pouco mais sobre o que acreditam. E o melhor foi perceber que podemos expressar as nossas ideias e opiniões de acordo com o que acreditamos que é melhor pra gente e para a sociedade.

Vejam os recortes de alguns desses momentos, pois fiquei orgulhosa de vivenciar essa semana com vocês, meus pequenos cidadãos!

PROJECT Time!!!!

How about making AWESOME structures out of recycling material?

Here is the challenge: 

1. You may use recycling materials to build your structure. 
2. It has to have posts in it. It cannot stand flat on the ground.
3. Your structure has to be STRONG and STABLE.
4. It has to hold a little weight for 1 minute (like ten marbles inside/on top of it).
5. It cannot bend or fall.
6. Adults can only help by holding the structure or gathering materials around. (Mom and Dad cannot make the structure to you, ok?)
7. All projects must be in class by MONDAY - September 29th, 2014.
8. Use your Creativity.
9. HAVE FUN!

Our research:

1- What are structures?
2- Make a list of structures you know.
3- Draw and color your favorite structures.

Use an A4 sized paper and bring your ideas to class tomorrow.

Use a dictionary as a helper! Try one online: www.webster.com

And remember... There are no wrong or right answers.

ARTS Project

Hey Year 3,
A partir de agora, vamos embarcar em uma viagem maravilhosa para descobrir a arquitetura de diversas cidades. Para começar a conhecer estes lugares e suas construções fantásticas vamos precisar fazer uma super pesquisa, e aqui estão as instruções:

1- Procure fotos e artigos que mostrem a arquitetura das seguintes cidades:

Recife / Salvador / São Luís do Maranhão / Amsterdã / Lisboa / Veneza / Rabat 

2- Escolha duas cidades, uma do Brasil e outra de fora do país, para pesquisar mais detalhadamente.(Aquelas que mais gostar ou achar interessante!).

3- Colete e traga para a classe duas imagens artísticas (desenho, gravura, pintura ou escultura) de cada uma das cidades escolhidas. (Desta vez não vale FOTOGRAFIA!)

4- As imagens devem ter 20cmX10 cm. (Não podem ser muito pequenas, ou não veremos os detalhes, ok?)

5- Entregue suas imagens a Ms Taty ou a Ms Zélia até a próxima quinta-feira (18/09).
